How to Download Website To my PC

While you could use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to transfer the files, you're likely to run into problems. For example, many FTP programs require you to specify whether the files you're transferring are ASCII (text) files or binary (graphic and sound) files. If you select the wrong transfer mode, the files can become corrupted. Even more importantly, your FTP program probably won't be able to deal with such FrontPage-specific issues as subwebs and configuration files. The preferred method of moving a Web from one location to another is to use one-button publishing. While it might seem counterintuitive to publish the Web from the server to your local PC, the process works just as well in either direction (or, for that matter, from one remote server to another).
To get started, open the live version of the Web in FrontPage 2000 and choose Publish Web from the File menu to open the Publish Web dialog box. (If your dialog box doesn't include all the options shown in the figure, click the Options button.) In the Specify The Location To Publish Your Web To text box, enter the pathname to the location where you want to save the Web. You can also click the Browse button and navigate to the correction location. Finally, click Publish.
The procedure is a little different for FrontPage 98. In that version, choose Publish FrontPage Web from the File menu to access the Publish dialog box. Then, click on the More Webs button to open the Publish FrontPage Web dialog box.. Enter the pathname to the new location and click OK twice to continue.
With either version of FrontPage, you should publish the Web to a subdirectory of the directory in which your local Webs are stored (probably C:\Inetpub or C:\webshare\wwwroot).
Once you've published the Web to your PC, close the live version and then open the local version to continue editing. When you're ready to publish again, use one-button publishing to publish the Web back to the remote server.
