IPv6 Compliance
As of September 2012, Fpweb.net is now IPv6 Compliant. IPv6 is the latest IP address scheme to anticipate the eventual problem of IPv4 running out of internet addresses. Developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force, the latest Internet Protocol version 6 promises to solve and accommodate the issue of consumers utilizing more and more devices to access the internet. Wikipedia explains the difference between IPv4 and IPv6:
"IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses, allowing for 2128, or approximately 3.4×1038 addresses — more than 7.9×1028 times as many as IPv4, which uses 32-bit addresses. IPv4 allows for only 4,294,967,296 unique addresses worldwide (or less than one address per person alive in 2012), but IPv6 allows for around 4.8×1028 addresses per person — a number unlikely ever to run out."
IPv6 and the Government
To meet a recent Government mandate for all Government external facing sites to be IPv6 compliant by October 1, 2012, Fpweb.net is compliant with dual stack capabilities.
Fpweb.net offers IPv4 and IPv6 versions. Dual Stack allows for companies to choose from Fpweb.net which Internet Protocol they would like their external sites to use.
